Feature Friday: The Jewelry Dish

May 9, 2014 at 7:08 am (Feature Friday, Interviews) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

1. How’d you get started on Etsy?

I’ve always had an interest in running my own business. Even as a
young girl, I was always trying to make money and sell something. When
I was about 10 years old, I started making beaded necklaces and
selling them to other kids in the neighborhood. After thinking about
it for a while last year, I decided to go for it. My fiancé has been
very supportive and encouraging in my pursuit.

2. What was your inspiration for your shop?

Art Deco being one of my favorite styles of art, has definitely been
an inspiration since I began designing and selling on Etsy.

3. What’s your favorite shop item and why?

My favorite item is a pair of orange and brown flower earrings. The
bright orange flowers really pop against the brown beads. These
earrings remind me of Autumn (my favorite time of year).

4. How do you unwind when you’re not creating?

In the evenings and on weekends, I like to read, write, cook, and
spend time with my fiancé.

5. What’s your favorite kind of cupcake?

Without a doubt, my favorite cupcake is Red Velvet.

6. What was your worst job?

Possibly the current one I’m in. After I graduated college, I went to
graduate school for 2 years to become a high school teacher but with
the recession and scarce job market, it’s been tough landing a job. I
needed money so I took a job as a secretary.

7. What’s your favorite cartoon as a kid? As an adult, if you stumble
upon it while channel surfing now would you stop & watch?

I really enjoyed watching “Jem and the Holograms.” I liked Jem because
she was a talented and successful young woman. She also had these pink
star-shaped earrings that would allow her to change her image
instantly from Jerrica, a manager of a music company, to Jem, the lead
singer of a rock group. I would definitely watch now it if I saw it on

8. What’s your fantasy job?

My dream job is to be able to run my Etsy shop full time and open up a
quaint jewelry boutique somewhere near home in New York City.

9. Do you have a secret guilty pleasure? Reality TV.

10. List 3 things you are so obsessed with it is torture to ever say no to.

-Jeopardy (TV Show)

– Coffee

11. List 3 of your favorite Etsy shops.

-Love You A Latte Shop

-Thuja Shop

– Tommy Kane Shop

12. Do you have a favorite author? When you read, do you use a proper
bookmark, bend the page, or grab anything handy to mark your place? My
favorite contemporary author is Joyce Carol Oats and my favorite
classic author is Edgar Allan Poe. I rarely use a standard bookmark. I
read a lot on the subway and I often find myself using my Metrocard
which I have actually noticed other fellow New Yorkers do too!

13. If money was no object and you can live wherever you want, where
would that be? New York City (my current home), I can’t imagine living
anywhere else.

14. What is your best childhood memory?  On Sunday mornings, my father
and I used to walk to the bagel store to get breakfast for
everyone…it was our special time together.

15. How would you describe your work style?

My office day job keeps me very busy from early in the morning to the
late afternoon. I work in a hospital in Midtown Manhattan so things
are always happening. When I work on my Etsy shop in the evenings and
weekend, I work just as hard but with a more relaxed environment. I
like to listen to music, drink coffee and sit by the window while I
make jewelry and think of new ideas.

16. If you could choose any one superhero power, what would it be and
why? Time travel so I could experience the world in different eras.

17. Who are your heroes? Lori Greiner, an entrepreneur and inventor.
Donna Mahar, one of my professors from graduate school.

18. What would you do if you won the lottery?

I would open a jewelry boutique in New York City, travel Europe with
my fiancé and save the rest for a rainy day.

19. What was the last movie you watched? Was it good? I watched “Eyes
Wide Shut.” It was great to watch it again, a little older. I was a
teenager when the movie first came out in theaters.

20. If you knew what you know now, when you first opened your store,
what would you do differently? I think I would have spent more time on
my shop photos and perfecting that skill. Photographs are crucial to
selling successfully online.

This is one shop, I wouldn’t mind winning some huge shopping spree from! This lady makes amazing pieces of jewelry. One of which replaced my engagement ring (due to unforeseen allergies).

Now, GriffinsNestJewelry has a huge selection of jewelry from amazing beads, rings, necklaces, cuffs, and…. stones! I got my daughter a really cool quarts rock for Christmas- it’s neat! My sister had a bird ring, but… somehow, it ended up in my jewelry stash. Thank, Sis! Cooler yet, I got this neato skull bead I put on a skinny link chain for my sister for Christmas too!

Feature Friday: SassyBelleWares

May 31, 2013 at 10:22 am (Etsy, Etsy D-Listers, Feature Friday)

Last Christmas, as a gift, I got a few things from SassyBelleWares. Most people don’t know this, but my hair is incredibly long. I don’t do a whole lot with it, except, pin it out of my face, leave it down, or throw it up into a sock bun. I’ve been pinning up and around and all over a lot since Christmas because of the awesome hair pins and clips I got from Sassy’s shop!

Here is one set that I have, and LOVE. My child takes off with these all the time, sticks them in her hair and proceeds to tell me “I don’t know where your flower pin went.” Because, I can’t see it sticking out of her hair, right? 🙂

Not only does SassyBelleWares have hair pins and clips. There is a huge selection of jewelry. Here are some of my favorite pieces:

Feature Friday: AdornYou

April 8, 2013 at 1:01 am (Etsy, Feature Friday)

I had to find my MIL a gift for her birthday last year… no, year before. Apparently I am still on year 2012. I got a necklace for my MIL in 2011, just to clear that up! 🙂 Anyway, AdornYou has some pretty amazing stuff. I like to think the necklace I got MIL is her favorite piece of jewelry. It does seem to be the necklace she wears most. Here is a photo of it!

Bermuda Blue Cosmic Ring Necklace

Bermuda Blue Cosmic Ring Necklace

Nice, right? Right! That is seriously one of my favorite necklaces, I wish I had gotten myself one! The ring is sooo pretty, and the necklace is gunmetal- another of my favorites!

Well, the second time that Adorn you has saved my butt for a gift was this past Christmas. My sister is generally easy to get gifts for. Jewelry usually makes her happy. Well, I couldn’t find anything I liked. By that I mean, I wanted to get my sister something that was something I would want her to show off and say “Megan gave me this!”, and be happy she told people, not run and hide when she told someone I got it. :] I don’t have a photo of the necklace, because… I didn’t get a photo of it before I gifted it. Whoops! Well, I have a stock photo. That’ll work! Sister’s is the same, only the little gem is a pearl and a black gemstone. It looked really cool. When I gave it to my sister, she opened it up, and put it right on. Success!

I did manage to get myself a bracelet. It’s pretty epic in my opinion. I don’t have a photo of it though. It’s the black gemstone and pearls, and it’s amazing. Yes, I need to get a photo.

AdornYou has tons of other items too, Earrings, Bracelets, Hair pins, and more!

You can find Adorn you on ETSY and FACEBOOK.

I absolutely love, love, love the leather wrap bracelets. So when I got TWO bracelets from ThePineapplePit, I was more than stoked. They’re beyond cool. Here are the two I got:

I seem to wear the green one more often- I have a lot of green and brown shirts! 🙂 They’re pretty epic bracelets. ThePineapplePit has other styles of bracelets too, single, double, triple, and 4, and 5 wrap bracelets, along with men’s bracelets too! And, she has keychains and lanyards! I do have a keychain from ThePineapplePit, and it’s really awesome. It’s really sturdy and makes my ugly keychain much more fashionable and easy to lug around.

Feature Friday: RosiesCraftShack

December 28, 2012 at 6:18 am (Etsy, Feature Friday, Shopping) (, , , , )

Not so long ago, I was searching for a gift for my husband. He has a home office and up until just a few day ago, it was pretty bare, and not as functional as it could be. Anyway, his office “theme” colors were blue, and some white, black or grey/silver. Not much of a theme, really, but I managed to find my favorite piece of his office at RosiesCraftShack. A really epic handmade pen. Check it out!

Matt's pen!

Feature Friday: JeanneAshleyJewelry

December 21, 2012 at 6:34 am (Etsy, Feature Friday) (, , , , )

This week’s feature friday is JeanneAshleyJewelry. I recently bought a few Christmas presents from her. Since no one who reads my blog is receiving these gifts, I think it’s safe to show them off!

This is one of my favorites!

Branch Earrings

Branch Earrings

They’re so unique and pretty. I’ve mentioned before I’m not big on pink, but if I hadn’t gauged my ears and regular earrings would fit in my 14g ears, I’d totally wear something like this! Click the photo to see the earrings available in this style! They’re really worth checking out!

Another thing I got was a really epic, and unique set of spiral earrings. I’ve never seen anything like these. I thought the person they were for would love them. They look amazing in person. There are really small, very awesome details on the earrings and I honestly couldn’t be happier I chose JeanneAshleyJewelry to fill in some of my Christmas gift gaps.

Again, the photo links to the other earrings in the same style that are available.

There are a lot more earrings available, along with some really cool beaded necklaces and bib necklaces like this one!

This seller is definitely someone to be excited about. Now, I still have some of the items I bought from TarynGraceDesigns to give for Christmas, so I can only share one. Sorry. I guess I have terrible timing. However, I am able to share some OTHER really epic things from this seller. So, I can’t say how awesome the other items are, but I’ve got plenty to say about the one I can talk about!

I gave this really epic rice/noodle bowl to my husband. He looked at it and asked if we could have Chinese food for dinner! Of course he used it all day. Now he pulls it out of the cupboard any time we have rice or noodles.

This shop is really amazing, and I couldn’t be happier that I got my husband’s rice bowl from her.

She’s got tons of other stuff too. Mugs, bowls, spoon rests, sponge holders. Tons of really awesome stuff, so go check her out on Etsy and on Facebook!
