Diary of an Etsy Seller: Difficult Customers

September 7, 2013 at 10:30 am (Diary of an Etsy Seller) (, , , , )

I’ve been wanting to write about this for some time. The approach, however, has halted all attempts of this topic- until now. I feel that being honest is important, but being honest doesn’t mean being rude or condescending. So, here it goes.

As an Etsy seller, I realize that I’m basically a one-person store. I’m the manufacturer, the store owner, the clerk, the complaint department, the janitor, the person who deals with every aspect of my little business. I also realize, I’m working RETAIL. Crabby, rude, mean, and just plain button hole people are going to pop up somewhere along the way. I don’t often deal with “difficult” customers. I would say, out of everyone I’ve ever met on Etsy, Facebook, at craft shows, talked to, dealt with as a shop owner, I’ve only had two or three people who were not so wonderful to deal with.

My tips? Easy. Keep calm. You don’t have to reply the minute you get a message/email. Take some time and think over your response. Whether your problem is an angry customer for late items or missing packages, long turn around time, item isn’t quite what they wanted, wrong size/color/whatever, you can deal with it, calmly and rationally! Also, remember a rude customer who gives one bad feedback is not the end of the world, though, it feels like it, sometimes! Some ways to prevent a really bad experience is to…

DO:
-Have clear shop policies, you may need to update them and add new policies based on some of the above and how you handled previous issues.
-Take your time with your response, think it out, and be clear, but reply in a timely manner.
-Be polite, but firm.
– Stay professional.

DO NOT:
-be a complete button hole to your customer, even if you want to yell, kick and scream.
-Name call your customer
-Harass your customer

The Grey (Film)

September 1, 2013 at 10:34 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , )

It’s absolutely no secret that I love Liam Neeson. He’s a great actor and slips into these amazing roles perfectly. One movie that I really liked was The Grey. I kid you not, I’ve seen every Liam Neeson movie, except, maybe 4. I think the only Liam Neeson I wasn’t thrilled with, was The Other Man. I wasn’t overjoyed with the story in Darkman either, but it wasn’t the worst movie I’ve ever seen.

Anyway, back on track. The Grey. My husband had taken me to see it in the theatre shortly after it came out. I remember it very specifically because that day was my dad’s “anniversary”… Yeah, that’s a terrible term for it, but I’m not sure what to call it, that isn’t totally obnoxious, or depressing. I didn’t even know what the movie was about before I told my husband I wanted to see it. I’ve pretty much come to the conclusion that if Liam Neeson is in it, it probably isn’t that bad, and has a high chance of being really epic.

This movie did NOT disappoint me. The gist of the movie is… Liam Neeson (John Ottway) is up in Alaska working for this oil company hunting wolves that are threatening the drilling team. On his last day on the job, he writes a letter to his wife- a suicide letter. He doesn’t go through with it. The next day he and a team are leaving, going home, and the plane flies through a blizzard and crashes. That’s all I’m going to say, but it is completely epic and Liam Neeson does an amazing job in this movie.

Seriously, look at this movie poster. It screams epic.

Wednesday Wishlist: Birds

June 19, 2013 at 8:25 am (Etsy, Shopping, Wednesday Wishlist)

This week’s Wednesday Wishlist is… BIRDS. I have a thing for birds. It’s sad and depressing, when I explain it, because my fondness for birds comes from a sad place… actually, a sad song. The line in the song is “Woe is me, oh woe, And the birds sing no more, Without you I cannot be.” That’s just a little tid bit from the song, but it’s probably my favorite sad song, ever. It also sounds much prettier in German. Trust me.

However. I had come to own this amazing bird ring. It reminds me of the song because this bird doesn’t sing. It’s made by a really awesome lady, over at GriffinsNestJewelry (The photo will take you to the birdie ring listing.)

This is one shop, I wouldn’t mind winning some huge shopping spree from! This lady makes amazing pieces of jewelry. One of which replaced my engagement ring (due to unforeseen allergies).

Now, GriffinsNestJewelry has a huge selection of jewelry from amazing beads, rings, necklaces, cuffs, and…. stones! I got my daughter a really cool quarts rock for Christmas- it’s neat! My sister had a bird ring, but… somehow, it ended up in my jewelry stash. Thank, Sis! Cooler yet, I got this neato skull bead I put on a skinny link chain for my sister for Christmas too!

Wednesday Wishlist: The Professional

June 12, 2013 at 8:04 am (Etsy, Shopping, Wednesday Wishlist)

When I was a kid, my dad and I had a weekly movie night thing. I’m sure my love of horror films comes from all this. Friday and Saturday nights, we’d sit on the couch, he’d fix us something or other, (remember, my dad was a terrible cook, except or all of 6 things he cooked really well) So, popcorn, trail mix, a can of mixed nuts he got at Blain’s Farm and Fleet. I vaguely remember us trying to bake cookies ONCE, and I remember being terrified when they started to burn and the oven spewed black smoke. The fire alarm and alarm system went off, and the fire department showed up. Anyway, as a kid, we watched Dracula, The Swamp Thing, Creep Show, Nosferatu, Frankinstein’s Monster, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Jurassic Park, Jaws, just to name a few. One of my favorite movies, of all time, out of the thousands of movies I’ve watched in my life: The Professional. It has got to be in my top 10 (my list of favorites is in no real order, but it’s in the top 10).

Not only that, The Professional has a pretty awesome cast. Jean Reno, Gary Oldman, and Natalie Portman. Throw Liam Neeson in there and the movie’s epicness could be fetal! 🙂 Anyway, I wanted to share my top picks of The Professional related Etsy items- Because it’s related to one of the most awesome movies ever, and, the items themselves are really amazing.

Feature Friday: SassyBelleWares

May 31, 2013 at 10:22 am (Etsy, Etsy D-Listers, Feature Friday)

Last Christmas, as a gift, I got a few things from SassyBelleWares. Most people don’t know this, but my hair is incredibly long. I don’t do a whole lot with it, except, pin it out of my face, leave it down, or throw it up into a sock bun. I’ve been pinning up and around and all over a lot since Christmas because of the awesome hair pins and clips I got from Sassy’s shop!

Here is one set that I have, and LOVE. My child takes off with these all the time, sticks them in her hair and proceeds to tell me “I don’t know where your flower pin went.” Because, I can’t see it sticking out of her hair, right? 🙂

Wednesday Wishlist: Rain

May 29, 2013 at 7:37 am (Etsy, Shopping, Wednesday Wishlist)

Lately, it’s been raining a whole ton. I hate it. Normally, I like rain, and non-destructive storms. However, our basement flooded, so I’m unhappy about that. All this rainy weather has inspired my Wednesday Wishlist for this week.
